Physiotherapy designed to treat neck pain

We have been providing quality neck physio to our patients for almost ten years now.

Chronic neck pain can have a detrimental impact on your quality of life, whether it’s an injury resulting from a car accident, pinched nerves or stiffness you have been experiencing for prolonged periods of time.

We will address both the symptoms of your neck pain and the underlying cause, and develop treatment plans and exercises specifically designed to alleviate a stiff neck or other neck pain.

Neck pain treatment

If you are suffering from chronic conditions, such as neck pain, stiffness, migraines, or pain in the shoulders, upper spine or head, our physiotherapy team has the experience to help.

Common neck pain symptoms and causes

Neck pain can be the result of trauma, such as an accident or whiplash, or it can occur over a long period of time as the result of problems with posture, stress, or other physiological conditions.

If you’re experiencing neck pain, stiffness might make it hard to turn your head, you may experience a sharp recurring pain, or there may be pain that radiates down your arm, or through the shoulders and up to the head.

Poor posture as a cause of neck pain

One of the most common causes of neck pain is poor posture. This is because it can strain both neck muscles and the upper part of the spine, jaw and skull.

Today, this is commonly the result of too much time spent looking art screens in an unnatural posture, and can result in muscle spasms.

Our long experience as Brisbane physiotherapists means we know how to treat both your pain and your posture.

We work with patients to remove tension and restore movement, and help you to avoid further such injuries in the future.

How physiotherapy can treat neck pain

One of the key ways in which physiotherapy alleviates neck pain is through strengthening the muscles.

This in turn reduces stiffness and tightness, decreases the frequency of muscle spasms, releases tension in the jaw, and reduces the impact and severity of migraines.

After an initial consultation, we will work with you to develop a programme of exercises, manual therapy, massage and other physiotherapy techniques to give you enhanced movement.

We also look to the future, to develop neck physiotherapy treatment plans designed to prevent the recurrence of head and neck pain over long periods of time.

In most cases, this will successfully treat common symptoms such as neck stiffness, the discomfort caused by muscle tightness, and headaches.

Headaches from neck pain

Headaches can often result from neck pain and other problems; stress over long periods of time can also be a contributing factor.

Through exercises, joint mobilisation and dry needling, physiotherapy can help to reduce how often headaches and migraines occur, as well as their severity.

Wry neck

Wry neck can come on suddenly, with an associated muscle spasm. It can potentially restrict movement to the extent that the neck becomes fixed in one position.

Joint mobilization, dry needling, and strengthening exercises can all be used to free up neck muscles and treat wry neck.

Whiplash

Whiplash is commonly the result of trauma (often a motor vehicle accident), and results in painful swelling in the neck and upper back. This will be accompanied by a lack of movement.

Treatment for whiplash can be required to take place over an extended period of time, with strengthening exercises, massage and dry needling used to restore flexibility and movement.

Degenerative neck pain

Neck pain can also be the result of the body and spine ageing. Joints and discs suffer over time from wear and tear, which in turn reduces flexibility and the ability to move the head with ease.

In this case, joint mobilisation is an effective treatment, as it can restore flexibility and reduce the reoccurrence of muscle spasm.
